(Ventura County Star) A Moorpark man was seriously injured and two other drivers’ cars were damaged early Thursday morning by large rocks thrown onto Highway 118 in Moorpark, authorities said.

Nicolas Angell, 40, was driving west on Highway 118 just west of Princeton Avenue about 12:25 a.m. Thursday when a softball-sized rock thrown from the right shoulder of the roadway crushed his windshield and hit his face, said Sgt. Mike Curtin of the California Highway Patrol’s Moorpark station.

The rock broke several of Angell’s teeth and caused multiple fractures to his face and nose, CHP officials said.

Angell was transported to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, where he was listed in stable condition.

About the same time that Angell was struck by the rock, Susan Barnhart, 52, of Thousand Oaks was driving west in the same area when a rock thrown from the shoulder of the road struck her hood and windshield, Curtin said. The rock crushed Barnhart’s windshield inward, but did not penetrate it, officials said.

About 10 minutes earlier, Melissa Baldibia, 26, of Moorpark was in the same area when someone threw a rock and struck her sunroof, and causing moderate damage to her car, Curtin said.
